Job Description Summary

Imaging is one of the externally reported segments of GE Healthcare (GEHC). GEHC has $20 billion in revenue and was spun-off recently from General Electric Company (GE). This Segment Controller will be responsible for providing overall controllership support to a $10B segment of GEHC, the Imaging Segment.

The Imaging Segment Controller is responsible for ensuring compliance with GEHC policies and procedures as they relate to technical/operational accounting for certain transactions impacting the Segment directly, drafting and review of external SEC disclosures for the Segment, and oversight of segment financial closing and reporting activities.

Ideal candidates should have experience in accounting, financial reporting, and closing/consolidation. In addition to solid skills in problem solving, verbal and written communication, and working cross functionally in a global organization.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a review process for validation of financial metrics and external disclosures in SEC filings (i.e., 10K/10Q) for the Imaging Segment with the with the leadership team, including Segment CEO and CFO.

  • Own the overall balance sheet review process on a quarterly basis for the segment, including conducting sub-segment balance sheet reviews, driving open items to resolution, deep-dive review of certain high-risk areas.

  • Lead accounting processes for areas of direct segment responsibility including research & development and fulfilment activities in the Imaging Segment. Includes periodic reviews with the operational/product teams to ensure appropriate recording, categorization, capitalization and impairment evaluations (if applicable).

  • Review external software development programs for appropriate accounting, including controls, sign-off, impairment risk, amortization. Ensure consistency of accounting with GEHC’s accounting policies/procedures and collaborate with the Global Headquarters team to resolve any exceptions.

  • Review items related to inventory accounting, including variances, slow moving, excess inventory at the global and regional levels for the Imaging Segment. Align with Supply Chain controller to ensure proper tracking and action.

  • Review various expense accrual accounts (for example, logistics, legal) impacting the segment directly for appropriate quarterly close conclusions.

  • Manage the accounting for potential Field Modifications (or recalls) impacting the Segment by establishing rhythms with Product and Quality teams. Review and document need for any accruals and review potential amounts.

  • Support any Segment-level restructuring activity, including booking of restructuring reserves and partner with Finance/HR teams to monitor restructuring spend against such reserves.

  • Perform annual reviews for Missing in Shipment (MIS) accruals and monitor fulfillment risks to ensure best estimates are accrued at reporting periods.

  • Perform annual fair market value updates, including input from all regions to support various calculations at the overall Segment level.

  • Manage annual impairment evaluation process for various asset categories on the Segment balance sheet, including, capitalized software, investments, intangible assets and P&E.

  • Partner with BD controllership to support any BD activity impacting the Segment (for example, integration, earn-outs monitoring, IPR&D monitoring).

  • Own and update any segment-level accounting policies and procedures. Provide training to appropriate Finance Managers and CFOs on segment-level policies and procedures.

  • Support Regional and Global controllership teams on product functionality determinations to comply with revenue recognition guidelines, including New Product Introductions (NPIs)

  • SOX - Own the segment-level SOX controls globally and support in testing of those controls.

  • Other financial and segment related activities, as applicable

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Accounting or Finance

  • Demonstrated proficiency in U.S. GAAP/IFRS

  • Experience in research of accounting and reporting issues, including interpreting U.S. GAAP and SEC Reporting Rules.

  • Demonstrated expertise in application of policies and procedures for day-to-day accounting and financial transactions. Working level understanding of US GAAP and SEC requirements for areas of responsibility for this role.

Desired Characteristics

  • Certified Public Accountant or equivalent (i.e., Chartered Accountant)

  • Demonstrated ability working in cross functional teams or in matrixed organization with sound understanding of global process and transactional flows.

  • Experience applying SOX requirements

  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with creation, review and presentation of balance sheet review packages or other similar financial review packages.
