Summary

The Environmental/Mechanical Test Technician 3 performs diverse and complex assignments in support of GEHC product development. Assignments may include, but are not limited to: set up and running of data acquisition equipment for tests, designing and carrying out experiments, troubleshooting, and reporting/documenting results of tests and measures, lead compliance and quality activities, and train/mentor other team members.

Key responsibilities/essential functions include:

  • Expertise in setting up/running equipment and performing Environmental/Mechanical tests (to include but not limited to Reliability, RoHS, Safety, Acoustic, Thermal, Structural, Vibration) of customer products per submitted Test Plans and appropriate standards/procedures, especially Thermal Environment Test Guideline, 2252595PRE, and Mechanical Environment Test Guideline, 46-316745.

  • Lead laboratory operations and personnel competency requirements as required under the GE Healthcare Quality System, ISO/IEC-17025 quality system requirement for test laboratories.

  • Perform complex trouble shooting encompassing multiple variables and unknowns to achieve root cause analysis and problem resolution. Provide solutions by using design knowledge to conduct experiments and prove out.

  • Provide technical leadership in improving internal models and/or externally sourced components in terms of system performance, reliability, functionality, and serviceability.

  • Be proactive as the technical expert on new product introductions by providing feedback/support to engineering and manufacturing personnel as new products are developed and new procedures are implemented.

  • Provide technical leadership by assisting others in troubleshooting, answering questions and seeking engineering assistance.

  • Design fixtures for all Environmental and Materials tests.

  • Design, develop, and train others in engineering models using conceptual descriptions and ideas.

  • Improve software and hardware evaluation and implement plans using knowledge of product, system operation, intermodule interactions, complex engineering tools, and interactive software tools as required.

  • Use problem solving skills to anticipate areas of technical issues and facilitate by telephone or in person to customers, field service personnel, or suppliers.

  • Travel to customer sites to lead in system level installations, problem resolution and diagnostics as required.

  • Train other team members through technical communications and/or presentations.

  • Lead compliance and quality activities by looking for defect trends, learning about quality issues and concessions and passing information to other technicians.

  • Drive evaluation, constructive feedback, and leadership in the development of internal or external engineering, manufacturing, or service documentation.

  • Lead, develop, and execute training plans as required.

  • Provide direction to others in the execution of job related activities.

Quality Specific Goals:

Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required Knowledge and understanding of GEHC Design Controls Procedures in order to ensure that specified design requirements are met Comply with EHS regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Associates degree from an accredited Technical College and 7 years technical experience as an electrical or mechanical test technician or education experience

  • Demonstrated intuitive and advanced proficiency to logically troubleshoot up to system level, using identifiable problem solving techniques and previous experience

  • Proven ability to draw accurate conclusions from test data, malfunctions, or deviations, and coordinate implementation of corrections to the existing design or process

  • Highly proficient at interpreting and explaining complex technical information.

  • Demonstrated proficiency to utilize and modify computerized work systems

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with limited direction and information

  • Proactively maintain knowledge of current technology

  • Ability to communicate using local language

Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to research and develop new test procedures and processes, particularly in the area of material testing and material composition testing.

  • In depth understanding of Six Sigma methods and techniques; application to data analysis

  • Understanding of acoustic noise, thermal, air flow, torque, material analysis and vibration experimental methodologies; interest in becoming an expert in one or more of these areas. Could involve significant travel to customer sites and direct interface with customers.

  • Ability to setup experiments using Strain gages, Accelerometers and Data Collection systems

  • Ability to work in both the electrical and mechanical areas. Design and build simple mechanical structures; ability to test, modify and repair (solder) circuit boards.

  • Working knowledge of electrical/mechanical shop equipment, e.g.: hand tools, drill press, band saw, oscilloscope, DVM.

  • Ability to work across multiple businesses and functions; enjoy dealing with ambiguous problems and deal easily with undefined processes.

  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to develop validation documents and then execute on them.

  • Ability to interpret industry standards, technical documents and drawings.

  • Excellent technical writing skills … ability to generate standards using self-generated data.

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail

  • Ability to implement Six Sigma and CAP techniques in the Testing arena

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology related field

  • Solid knowledge in electronics; analog, power and digital

  • Manage and lead the overall design, test, integration and all technical activities associated with new technologies
